Bikram Yoga

The heat was a lot less intense than I had imagined, the duration alot longer and the level of difficulty on par with expectations.

I didn’t know what to expect on my first session, nor did I have time to wonder.  Having been persuaded very easily by Julia, I stepped into my first Bikram Yoga session (typically and unfashionally late!) on Monday afternoon.  It was something that I had always wanted to try out and had had in the back of my mind since I first heard of it more than two years ago.  It’s no surprise that I gave it no second thoughts when I swiftly agreed to joining Julz at Bikram Yoga Northside.

A 90-minute session comprised of 26 poses in a room heated to body temperature.  I could’ve sweated enough for one of Seth’s feeds.  Apart from the calorie-burning (between 300-500 per session) and the detoxifying benefits, it offered a well-deserved mental release.  In contrast to the gym workouts I have been mundanely programmed to, I must admit Yoga has always been my cup of tea and the heat has added even more flavour.

Strongly recommended for those who need a freshened ‘glow’ to the skin.

  1. Same here! It’s always been something I wanted to try but put on the back burner. 300-500 calories sound very tempting. Maybe if done regularly, it’s more worthwhile than the 7 day detox program that we went on!


  2. @Rol_Rol – Well, I’m sure the detox program did you some good.  Made you appreciate the days when you can actually eat and drink freely, not to mention that 2 kilos you lost!  But then again, Bikram yoga rewards you with a sense of achievement as well.  I say, give it a go.. 🙂@La_Nocciola – Yup – Lane Cove one up the road from your place.  If you wanna go again, we’ll go together!  I’ve always loved yoga.


  3. I also just did my first session of bikram this week but I have to say it is not my cup of tea. it’s the sweat… and the lack of air I’m sticking to pole dancing… hahaha!
