Through yoga, I’ve made some great friends from the yoga community both online and offline. Through yoga, I’ve learnt about my body and simply listen to the needs of this precious temple.
Yoga has taught me to “be present” and to dedicate time to “be still” before God.
Yoga has allowed me to dedicate time to relax, refresh and restore.
Yoga has opened my eyes into the fascinating and mysteries of God’s creation.
Most importantly, yoga has helped me enter into a loving community, Holy Yoga, to strengthen my relationship with Jesus.
Yoga has been God’s gracious gift to me.
And for these reasons, I celebrate it with you today.
For those of you who have been wondering about all the chatter of my Melbourne move, it’s real. Yes, we are moving to Melbourne.
As much as this news comes as a surprise and shock to some of you (me too!), this event deserves celebration as it has come with much prayer and discernment behind the scenes.
Unlike what you may have thought, the opportunity and decision came about very recently. For me recent is a few ‘days’, if you know what I mean 🙂
So, thank you to all of you who have sent on your blessings and well wishes for the relocation. Due to the spontaneity of this, it’s fair to say I’ve encountered a flurry of emotions over the past week – mainly oscillating between excitement and sadness.
Some of you will know that, for many reasons, Melbourne would be the LAST place on earth that I would imagine moving to (sorry Melbourne friends 😆). This is testament that when God uses you and calls you, He does. He does it gently, compassionately and in His time. No amount of my own effort would have resulted in such a decision had it not come from providence.
With such privilege, I’m confident that this path ahead is bright but winding, of course. The coming months will see a lot of learning in the family dynamics and yet again, polishing of my marriage. So, I’m expecting friction. I’m expecting tears. Yet no precious stone reflects its true shine without some hot laser-cutting and polishing.
I’m already excited about Efficient Media’s expansion into Melbourne and of course, HOLY YOGA MELBOURNE!
Congratulations to my husband, who has stayed so dedicated to work and family. He probably doesn’t deserve the role.. HAHA….but as Wonder Woman would say, “It’s not what you deserve. It’s what you believe.”
The best contribution to $4M I’ve ever made – the joys of my life. Some would have heard my story for the very first time of how I got the privilege to volunteer, at Wesley Mission’s School for Seniors as a Yoga teacher, at this celebration at #nationalvolunteerweek.
Jeannie Mathews, I’m forever thankful to you for bringing me in.
Today is the last day of National Volunteer week, a celebration to recognise those who contribute to the community in volunteer services.
Today, I am so proud and honoured to be celebrating this with other volunteers in Wesley Mission, as they host their last afternoon tea for this week. Some of you will have heard my story of why I volunteer at Wesley for the first time. And I will share this personal story again and again of my calling into volunteering in this loving place. All you need is to ask me 😊
Today, I met those who had volunteered for 30 years and those who were still volunteering and serving the community in their 90’s. To think my Friday morning yoga classes offered to the School for Seniors in the past 16 months is a big commitment is naïve, compared to the work that some of these other volunteers have done. Don’t get me wrong, I do not want to undermine the hours and effort that I have spent and the benefits that the community receive. But it was certainly very grounding to see the joy of those who have served in community, especially the elderly community (94 year olds!!!)
Wesley Mission highlighted that the contribution is equivalent to a saving of $4M AUD in wages. The impact of the lives that volunteers is invaluable.
96% of volunteers say that they feel happier and sleep better.
I certainly feel and own this privilege. ❤️ Curious to know if it’s true? Give it a go. Try and see for yourself!
This has been ringing in my ears since the past Sunday’s sermon delivered by Pastor Brett Glover. It has provoked deep thinking and sustained a good reminder for my week.
Essentially, it’s human inclination to lean towards what you love. We are fearfully and wonderfully created for worship. But if we aren’t careful with what we choose to love, and eventually worship, we may find ourselves trapped in meaningless ways.
Of course, not everything is meaningless but there is truth in the saying, where your love of something steers your priority in life. It becomes your natural priority compass.
“If you love alcohol, you will become a drunk.”
“If you love money, you will become materially possessed.”
“If you love work, you will become a workaholic.”
Makes me ponder how deeply rooted my love is for Christ and His teachings and whether I love it enough to ALWAYS choose Him….
What do YOU love the most?
🍩,🍷, 💰,🤸🏻♀️, 🤳🏼, ? Or ✝️?
Lately, it may seem that I am posting a lot more Hyperlapse videos than photos of static poses on Instagram.
❓THIS IS WHY… ❓The past few months have been a season of transitioning and change. Life is always changing, I know. But in some seasons, changes happen more abruptly than other season. These past 6 months have been one of these abrupt ones. It challenges you to re-evaluate priorities, your relationships with others and for me, my relationship with God.
Priority shifts have been clear since the beginning of 2017. From comfortably teaching several Holy Yoga classes and proactively leading this movement here in Australia 🇦🇺 up until November last year, starting 2017 saw me being called back into my digital business, Efficient Media, and the restoration of my health.
As a yoga teacher and spiritual leader, we often preach the importance of “creating space” and “holding space” for your physical and spiritual health. In order for us to be effective leaders, it’s not just fair but necessary to practice what we preach. Literally.
I love recording the different seasons of my yoga and faith journey on Instagram. But it cannot be at the expense of Truth and misaligned with reality. Reality is that I have far less time to dedicate to static posing. Truth is that restoration comes from spending much time in Scripture, chewing on the Word and spending quality time in prayer and meditation with Jesus.
Instead of photos, which requires more time investment, I have been recording some of my practices to continue to inspire, empower, share and spread.
Is that the things I share and the formats will continue to be interesting and spark the interest of those who have been called to hear; that the journey and the joys of my experience will encourage in some way. 🙏🏻
P.S. Here’s my 10-minute standard mid-morning flow sped up 6x. 🌤
Happy New Year to you all! May God bless you all with another year of good health, joy and steady growth in your life.
HERE’S A LITTLE UPDATE FROM ME AND ABOUT YOUR YOGA CLASSES
Year 2016 was a year of travelling, growth, spiritual development and learning for me. I have the greatest pleasure and honour to be serving in this ministry (founded in the US) and helping them build their foundations in this region. Meanwhile, with the support of my gracious students, YOU, I have been able to enjoy a year of teaching yoga, spreading love, serving God and doing what I LOVE to do. I also completed my 12 month yoga therapy training mid-last year, which was a huge achievement for me. All of these blessings, I am so grateful for.
As some of you may know, I have been praying and listening to what my 2017 path looks like for ministry, yoga and for my work. Every day, I wake up and remind myself that discernment is a conscious choice to just ‘let things be’ the way God wants it to be. So, I’m not trying too hard, with my own effort, to achieve things. Still a struggle for my ‘hustling’ personality, but I find peace and comfort in choosing to relax and let things roll in faith. My prayer is that Holy Yoga classes have had that impact on you too, somehow!
- As far as ministry is concerned, I will continue to serve in Holy Yoga as their Regional Leader in Australia. This means you will continue to see me actively in outreach activities seeking new instructors for the ministry and helping them grow.
- As for my business which I had taken a year off (2016) to focus on ministry and yoga, I have been called to return to my Digital Marketing role this year with flexible hours. I’m thankful that the business has yet again grown with God’s provision and that my expertise is still somewhat relevant enough that they need me back! 😛
- So what about yoga? I’ve really enjoyed teaching community classes of varying levels of students last year but with the work and family commitments, I will no longer be able to offer community classes in year 2017.
This year, I would love to continue working with students privately with a focus on yoga therapy benefits for physical wellbeing. As we all know the mind, body and soul is one. Last year was a year of soulful fitness and now that you’ve learnt a few tools on keeping that well, Iwould like to dedicate 2017 to BODY.
|WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
- You will need to schedule classes with me individually or as a private group. Community classes are no longer available.
- The price per person will vary, dependant on the number of students in a class, location and other factors.
- Unfortunately, this means that $10 class passes are no longer available. For those who have unused classes, please contact me for a refund.
- For those of you who won’t be able to continue classes with me, thank you for your grace and support. I will miss you! I hope you continue your practice and grow in faith with Jesus. Remember that I’m only a ‘text me’ away. So reach out if you have any yoga questions.
“May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.”
Blessings with Love,
• WITHOUT YOU •
Couldn’t have done it without everyone’s support this year. So, thank you.
Thank you to MY STUDENTS who always show up and entrust their bodies with me. 🤸🏻♀️
Thank you to MY INSTAGRAM COMMUNITY who is always encouraging and sending good vibes. 💫
Thank you to MY FAMILY who have allowed me to pursue this tirelessly and trusted in my discernment. 👨👩👧👧
Thank you to MY FRIENDS who have walked alongside this journey with me and lifted me up when I was down. 👯
Thank you to THOSE WHO HAVE ENQUIRED AND CONNECTED with me, Holy Yoga and classes. Follow your dreams and your calling, I say.
I started this year not knowing where this road would take me. From a small community class of friends at the local school hall on Sundays…. then with the school hall shutting down and no place to teach, God provided a new place. A beautiful yoga studio which I could afford to grow my ministry in. God continue to provide and brought more students along. From one Sunday class, it became 4 weekly classes.
From little awareness of what Holy Yoga was, we were featured in various publications such as the Sydney Morning Herald, the Age, the ABC and Salvation Army’s Warcry (Australia) magazine.
From repeated prayers on being able to teach in my church community, God placed me in Wesley Mission’s School for Seniors.
From various controversial conversations to being at total peace with what I am gifted to do.
From not knowing where to go to not knowing where to go, my faith keeps me going.
2017 is still unknown. I have no idea how this journey will look like again, although there will be a few exciting changes I’m sure of. Stay tuned and see you all next year!
