Top 10 Best Yoga Mats

Currently, I really enjoy my Jade Yoga Mat.  For the first few years of my practice, I was very attached to the Stella McCartney sports mat that my husband bought for me as a Christmas gift.  It was a pale pink mat with a great grip and 7mm padding.  If you haven’t figured, I love the pink and to-date, I still haven’t found a colour that matches my love of that same hue.  However, as the mat aged with my practice, so did the grip.   The time came for me to invest in a new mat.

I needed something that would withstand the hot vinyasa/power sweat and something that didn’t weigh a ton.   My favourite yoga studio, Yoga Hotspot, was selling the Jade Harmony mats at a very decent price.  So, the decision came down to what colour to choose.  So here I am, raving on about my Olive Green Jade Harmony Mat.  The grip is fantastic.  Sure when I’m sweating a bottle of water down my arms, my hands do slide that tad bit in my downward dogs, but given the balance of weight, grip and natural goodness, this ticks most of my boxes.

I have tried the LuluLemon and the Manduka PRO yoga mats.  They are pretty awesome if you have a permanent home for them or run a full-serviced studio with fixed mat spaces, because they are pretty heavy and not what I would like to carry/travel around with.  However, their grip is very good.

You Become What You Love

This has been ringing in my ears since the past Sunday’s sermon delivered by Pastor Brett Glover. It has provoked deep thinking and sustained a good reminder for my week.

Essentially, it’s human inclination to lean towards what you love. We are fearfully and wonderfully created for worship. But if we aren’t careful with what we choose to love, and eventually worship, we may find ourselves trapped in meaningless ways.

Of course, not everything is meaningless but there is truth in the saying, where your love of something steers your priority in life. It becomes your natural priority compass.

“If you love alcohol, you will become a drunk.”

“If you love money, you will become materially possessed.”

“If you love work, you will become a workaholic.”

Makes me ponder how deeply rooted my love is for Christ and His teachings and whether I love it enough to ALWAYS choose Him….

What do YOU love the most?

Yoga Everywhere!

My husband asked me why I decided to practice my handstands on the streets. I thought, “Why not? There’s no one on this quiet street and it’s beautiful.” It’s my way of living life to it’s fullest. God didn’t give me a life of blessings only for me to worry.

FAITH, COURAGE & PERSISTENCE | Must Haves in Serving & Business

I’m so honoured to be invited by Fideliz Cruz to be featured on her lifestyle channel recently.

FAITH, COURAGE & PERSISTENCE.
THE MUST HAVES IN SERVING & BUILDING A BUSINESS

Have you seen my interview with Fideliz Cruz? Watch the full episode here:

Here are my tips when serving and building your business:

1) Grace – allowing grace and remembering that we are all made uniquely different – when working with someone that works differently from you, and when you’re faced with a difficult or challenging situation, allow grace and trust in God’s plan.

2) Faith – trust that He [God] has a plan for you. you might not understand when you come across obstacles but keep going with courage.

3) Persistence – “You can not know whether it’s God’s plan or whether you’ve not done enough if you don’t persist. If you’ve persisted and its still not working you know that you can still trust in the plan. But if you didn’t persist and you didn’t give it your 100% you wonder whether it was me or what it was…”

Sleep…because when you wake, the work will still be there.

SLEEP….On this topic still, I never used to understand what my husband meant when he said, “Sleep. Because when you wake, the work will still be there.”

Finally, one day it clicked. And when I labour too far into the night, I know I must give it to God. Rest in obedience and know that when I wake, the work will still be there. To serve, to love, to teach grace.

• PRAYER •

Lord, You are the giver of rest. Help me trust that You have everything under control, and that my job is not to juggle everything, but to hand all of my burdens over to You, the all-powerful, able, strong God. * * *

Throw Away Your Health Goals, please!

Have you ever:
1. said to someone, “I’m on a diet”?
2. typed this into Google “how to lose weight in 5 days..”

Google Search -Lose Weight

3. have you looked at Before and After photos and thought, “yeah, I want to try that workout.”?
4. have you wished you enjoyed working out or was more athletic like that girl back in high school?

If you answered ‘yes’ to any of them, then we have something in common and in this post I want to share with you something that changed my life.  I talk about it a lot in themes of my blog but probably not enough.

It’s literally throwing away setting ‘health goals’. It’s veering away from ‘I can do it’ with willpower.  It’s replacing this model of being a ‘goal-kicking achiever’ to being ‘willing’.  And then? No, ‘and then..’.   Yup, that’s it.  Just being ‘willing’.

This was how I started my talk at a recent workshop – Vision Casting & Life Strategies run by Fideliz Cruz.

I vividly recall the look in the audiences faces as I introduced this new concept of not having to ‘rely on your own willpower’  (not ALONE anyways) and replacing this concept with ‘faith’ and ‘willingness’.  There were confused faces, skeptical faces and raised eyebrows.  Until I showed them this….and then people were interested in what changed my life.

WillingnessOverWillpower

The left was when I was pregnant (I tried to find photos of post-pregnancy but I couldn’t find any. Surprise! And frankly it doesn’t make a difference because I looked practically the same) and the right was when my first born was 1 years old.

I was filled with willpower to lose my 25 kilos.  And I did it.  You see, I eat willpower for breakfast.  In fact, it’s my biggest enemy.  Because of this false sense of security, aka willpower, I have suffered from bulimia, anorexia, depression, anxiety and ended up in hospital many times in my life.  But at least twice for suicidal attempts.

My experience has told me that ‘willpower’ and kicking ‘health goals’ doesn’t sit quite right.  I’m sure some can relate, and others are like, “I kinda prefer to have your willpower.” And perhaps you sit on the other end of the spectrum, where you dream of your goals and never seem to be able to achieve them.

This is where I fault the system.  Relying on willpower sucks.

Willingness, on the other hand, is powerful.  It’s not judgemental.  It’s kinder.  It fits well for those who kick goals and those who don’t do so well with goals.  Either ways, we’re trying.  You can’t fail if you’re still trying, right?

Now, of course the questions is then, willingness to ‘what?’   I can’t answer that question for you but it must be something that is greater than your own being.  It must be sustainable.   Mothers can relate to this easily.  You are willing to sacrifice your needs for your children.

For me, it’s surrendering my willpower to control, to change things, to do things in My plan, My time,  My will ….to God.  You saw it coming, didn’t you?

Yup, here I am preaching again.  And get this.  I do it not because there is any specific gain.  It’s not a goal I’m kicking.   I preach because my life has changed since I’ve really picked up the cross and followed Jesus.  And I passionately feel it to share with you.

I’ve realised that He loves me in whatever shape, size or form I am.  He loves me no matter how many goals I kick or not.  There is no scoreboard.  In fact, because He loves me so much, it doesn’t matter if I put on a kilo or two every now and then.  He teaches me about balance and learning to love my body so that I am WILLING to treat my body with love and care.  Bring on a juice detox and do it with joy! Bring on a degustation and eat it with joy!  If you turn your eyes on Him, you’ll KNOW how important it is to stay healthy.

With this new lifestyle, I’m so thankful that my Vision is clear and my Lifestyle Strategy is rooted in a good place.  Everything I do, I turn my eyes to God and really trust in His health plan for me.  Not my own.

Today, if you’re wondering whether you could explore something different for your health goals, take time to ponder this verse from the Bible:

“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,”  ~ Romans 17:14

Further to this, a genuine feeling of emptiness can sometimes be real and needs attention, too. Read more here.

Tweet Tweet, do you Twitter?

Today, I wore my Digital Marketer hat to a breakfast hosted by Twitter’s Australia office.

As a small business owner or owner of small businesses, to be precise, it’s highly relevant to stay on top of the latest on social media and where your customers are ‘hanging out’.  Whether it’s the latest fad (Snapchat, dare I say) or Facebook’s latest acquisition.

What do I think about Twitter?

I love cute Larry, the bird. I love that 1 billion tweets are sent globally every 2 days. I love Twitter staff, the office and their slick presentations.  I do believe in their branding impacts with video. I love that they house the world’s data signals with @ and #.  I love the fact that they came up with the # (hashtags). I do love that they popularised short-form content.

Though from a SMB strategy perspective, if you ask me for an honest opinion on Twitter – I’ll admit that it is my least of priorities on the myriad of Social Media platforms I use.  Not necessarily because it’s ineffective but it has probably lost its relevancy in promoting businesses.  I do realise I’m being harsh here but honesty is the best policy when it comes to helping small businesses prioritise their efforts.   Would I recommend my clients to pay $12K on promoted trends (a hashtag) for a single day?  Yes I would, if they were a large, million dollar business and running a branding campaign.  But definitely not for SMB’s who are focussed on measurable impacts on their marketing dollars that they entrust us with.

That said, Twitter is still a place to be present in for all small businesses.  It’s free to set up accounts and there are quite some smart strategies that are free to help you understand the latest trending topics that your customers are interested in.  In turn, there are some nuggets that you can leverage in there to target your customers.  How?  Ask the experts?

If you lack the time to post separately on Twitter, the least you can do is to link up the account to your more active Social Media platforms such as Facebook or Instagram so that your updates are automatically pushed onto Twitter.   The are also plenty of tools out there which help you manage your multiple platforms in the one place.  The one we like is Hootsuite.   Is it effective then, to be just pushing automatic updates from Facebook to Twitter?  No, it’s not best practise.  But as a small business, we understand that you may lack the time to dedicate targeted messaging on each platform.  In this instance, better to have presence than none at all.  That’s our perspective.  Some will argue otherwise.  We’ll leave it you to test and analyse!
