What is Holy Yoga?

— What is Holy Yoga? —

It’s a Christian Yoga Practise! And yes, Christian Yoga Classes are available here in Sydney, Australia.

Holy Yoga is experiential worship created to deepen people’s connection to Christ. Our sole purpose is to facilitate a Christ-honouring experience that offers an opportunity to believers and non-believers alike to authentically connect to God through His Word, worship and wellness. There is often a misunderstanding that yoga is a religion; it is not. Yoga is a spiritual discipline, much like prayer, fasting and meditation. Yoga has the capacity to enhance our personal beliefs and faith.

We practice with our minds set on whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent or praiseworthy (Phil 4:8), not with our minds emptied. We meditate on the wisdom of God’s Word (Psalm 119:9-16, 26-27), not on man’s wisdom.

Holy Yoga is 100% Jesus and 100% yoga. Experience what a Holy Yoga class is like and hear from participants.

— Why Holy Yoga? —

Holy Yoga is accessible and available to everyone! What makes Holy Yoga ‘holy’ is the intent.  The intent to use the practise, in both its physical and meditative form, to worship and connect with the Lord.  We believe that God is sovereign above all.  And that He created Holy Yoga for us to enjoy, practised with the intent of our meditation focussed wholly and solely on Jesus Christ.

Holy Yoga is not just about the physical movements of yoga.  Meditation is 100% on the Scriptures and The Word.   Scripture study comes hand in hand with the Holy Yogi lifestyle.

My personal experience with Holy Yoga is continual spiritual growth and well-being through faith and servitude, summed up by Galations 5:22-23:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.”

— What are Holy Yoga classes like and how are they different to Classical Yoga classes? —

The difference with Holy Yoga to non-Christian yoga is that focus is on Jesus and God’s Word for meditation.

For Christians, this practise provides a time for you to connect with Christ while benefiting from physical caring of your body. Many attest to growing their spiritual depth through Holy Yoga practise. Yes, it’s not JUST ME, my friends!

For non-Christians, don’t worry! We have plenty of non-Christians who join Holy Yoga classes and continue to come. They all love it either ways. Our doors are open to everyone.  We hope that we can make a place for you to call home, too.

Holy Yoga classes typically start off with a prayer and verse from the Bible that sets the theme and intention for the meditation session of the class.  The physical form, asanas, vinyasa flows, etc. are not much different to the classical form, if none at all. Holy Yoga is practised with contemporary Christian background music and the practise ends in prayer, gratitude and meditation.

The key differentiator is in our Truth seeking. We, Holy Yogis, seek the Holy Trinity and nothing else. There is no ’emptying of our minds’. After all, why should we empty our minds when it can be filled with the love and grace of God?
